"Travel report": our visit to the IBM Watson IoT Lab
Why take our customers to Munich?
In 2016-17 we realised our first successful IoT projects in the manufacturing industry. However, during our conversations with other customers we often noticed that a lot of companies are wondering how to apply IoT in a meaningful way for their organisation.
Together with our partners, IBM and Arrow, we decided to educate our clients about the wonderful world of IoT. Next to personal consulting sessions we also organise thought-leadership sessions and excursions to showcase the potential added-value of these new technologies.
After discussions with IBM and Arrow we quickly came to the conclusion that a visit to the IBM Watson IoT lab in Munich would offer great value for our customers. You can see a sneak peek of the IoT Lab below.
How did we make this visit relevant?
Once we had set a date and drafted a programme for the 2-day trip to Munich, we started contacting our clients. Our goal was to make it very relevant for every customer that decided to join. Therefore we planned visits to several 'industry labs' within the IBM Watson IoT tower, based on the people that joined our trip.
Furthermore we asked every customer to prepare their (potential) use cases for IoT. Based on their feedback we organised interactive round tables with IBM & Arrow. This preparation also allowed us to highlight IoT implementations and customer stories that were very similar to the challenges faced by our clients. This proved really helpful because we could ensure that our clients got the most out of the visit.
Below you can see some pictures & quotes from our customers:
“The IBM Watson IoT lab is very inspiring. It was great to see the collaboration between IBM, Arrow, LoQutus, and the customers around several projects. A lot of applications are still being developed, but it was clear for us that there are plenty of opportunities. Now it's up to us to grab these!" - Rik Holvoet, CIO at BekaertDeslee
"Our visit to IBM's IoT Lab was a refreshing experience. In my opinion this is a 'must see' for anyone exploring the possibilities of the Internet-of-Things!" - Katja Van Remoortere, IT & Process Manager at Parkwind.
"We were inspired and got a better understanding of what IoT exactly means for our industry. It's not about connecting devices and gathering data, but it's about the insights you get out of this." - Tim Hennin, Global Communications & Digital Manager at Unilin
“I was positively surprised by the innovations shown by IBM and their partners. To see all these experiments and real life applications has motivated me even more to get started with IoT. IBM and LoQutus show that it’s entirely possible to get started and implement these technologies today!” - Alexander Laquiere, Director Innovation & Digitalisation at Willemen Groep
What about the people?
While interviewing colleagues & customers to write up this report, everyone told me that the atmosphere was great during the trip. We really want to thank everyone that joined!
Next time I'll make sure I grab a seat on that plane ;) And we hope to see you there as well!
"Even more so than the educational aspect I really enjoyed the networking: Sharing common experiences & challenges, talking to peers in other industries, engaging with the IoT experts, etc. Looking back that was the most valuable for me personally." - Tim Hennin, Global Communications & Digital Manager at Unilin
